Grace Angel Band
Grace Angel Band originally began in 2004 when a trio of talented musicians who love the Lord came together to share music at their local churches, outreach ministries, hospitals and prisons. Tracy Barns (aka Theresa Weir Moller), Jerry Mulkins and Maria Weir Werth were the original founding members, and the enthusiastic response to their sound of blended harmonies and acoustic music soon led to the recording of their first Christian/Gospel CD, "Top of the Mountain."
Jerry Mulkins is a brilliant guitarist, composer, worship leader and Emmaus retreat leader/director. He performs and has recorded numerous albums with his local blues/rock groups, “Cheap Yellow Mustard” and “Blue Mustard” and "Blonde Mustard."
Tracy and her sister, Maria, have been making music together since growing up in a large musical family. They began their singing careers in church as their mother was a classically trained pianist, church choir director and organist. Later they performed popular music with their brothers and sisters in a 9-piece family jazz/rock band called “The Weirz”. The group toured throughout the United States and Canada, and also backed up younger brother, Michael Damian’s “Rock On Tour.”
In the ‘90’s, Maria teamed up with Tracy (now a Nashville award winning performer) to play country and blues music. Together they performed at various country and blues festivals and venues such as Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace (Bakersfield, California), in order to entertain and showcase their original music. Their distinct sound has since brought them as far as Germany, Italy and China for performances. These talented women work as school teachers during the week, and tour churches on the weekends spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ with their music.
Pat Shoptaw and Kristopher Salas are the latest additions to the group, joining last summer for the 2014 tour throughout California and Nevada. Pat has been playing drums since 1964. He played drums and sang on numerous recordings including the 80’s rock band “Lucksinger” (vinyl release) and Christian singer/songwriter Kara Slocum’s CD. Pat is currently the drummer and vocalist for the Southern California Rock and Soul Band, “Tom Thumb and the Hitchhikers”, and is also the drummer at his home church, Central Christian Church in Lancaster, California.
Kristopher Salas (eldest son of Tracy) began singing in high school bands. He fronted his own band, “Ultimate Fury” where he was the lead singer and songwriter. Kris took professional vocal lessons from Stephen Grimm (musical director of the Neighborhood Church in Pasadena, California, and founder of the Pasadena Pro Musica, Children’s Choir and Bell Choir). Kristopher has also worked as an Intern at the recording studio, “Studio City Sound” with Grammy award winning uncle, Tom Weir, for many years.
Grace Angel Band feels so blessed to share with you their unique blend of original gospel songs along with some old time favorites that they have mastered over the years.
